VPS Hosting

Postby Ann0yeD » April 13th, 2013, 9:50 pm

I have in mind to buy this
http://www.leaseweb.com/en/cloud-hosting/virtual-server(S series)
They tell me that they allow to install Apache, PHP, MySQL; IRC and some other services, but the supporter has suggest me to buy a M series because it have a control panel to do that all... but I don't need it, I use command line as well...

He says the S series is 500GB/ps, I don't know the speed but I guess it is 100mbit/ps

I would like your opinion about this

[modified] add specific bandwidth

I need to get some projects I have in mind that I still have to revise well and decide whether to proceed or not, because once started then you have to take it forward in a continuous manner ... I decided to create a webhost for Italians: Joomla, phpBB, vBulletin, SMF and my own websites of course, so far I've only done for others, but now it's time to create for myself too :)

No oversell - currently 2 vps on the machine. And one is used for fewona staff (so no load) and the other is barely used too.
The machine has 32GB RAM so the max is 64 VPS (probably way less - 25-30 VPS, because when customers buy more RAM there will be less VPS) which is better than 99% of other providers, which sell 100s of vps on one machine (with worse CPU than ours - ours is a new model Xeon)
And it is KVM so resources are capsuled :) The thing is we are not trying to make money of it.. just to cover expenses and if there is profit it goes for other Fewona servers :)
After all we are non-profit organization, so the money always go for upgrades ;)

For webhost (phpbb vbulletin etc) I recommend the Starter plan (512MB Ram + 512MB Swap, 50GB HDD, 500GB Traffic) for 6 euro monthly and if you need more you can always upgrade later :)

Good for me.. but not good for you, why do that without profit..

does not live by air only, however I have not decided, not for the money but as I said when you start something then you have to finish it, if and when I decide, you'll be the first to know ... I need to find some Italian who embarks to help me, I could not do it all alone

The idea is to make Fewona better :) If one day there are many customers there maybe a profit, but It won't be soon.
So for now, we are trying to cover expenses and pay for the servers first, then we probably will focus on some upgrades.
